Patient Surgery Guide

Preparation for your Procedure

  • Before your procedure, please do not eat or drink anything after midnight. This is very critical, and failure to comply could result in complications.
  • In the days leading up to your procedure, you should notify your doctor if your health changes.
  • In the event of a cold, cough, or elevation in temperature, please notify your physician.
  • Consult your doctor if you think you may be pregnant.
  • Following your procedure, you will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle for your safety and protection. Arrange for someone to transport you home from our center.

Day of Procedure Preparation

  • Bathe or shower and brush your teeth the morning of your procedure. Make-up should be removed, including mascara, make-up, lipstick, and nail polish.
  • Remove your contact lenses.
  • Comfortable clothing is recommended. Following some procedures, tight-fitting clothing may feel restrictive. Additionally, the surgery center maintains cooler temperatures, so you may want to wear something warm.
  • Jewelry, wallets, and purses should be left at home.
  • Remember to bring YOUR INSURANCE CARD(S) AND PROOF OF IDENTIFICATION!
  • You should limit the number of people accompanying you. To maximize everyone’s comfort, we request only one guest.

After Your Procedure

  • Post-procedure instructions will be provided by your physician regarding diet, rest, and medications. A written summary of these instructions will be provided by Heathrow Surgery Center.
  • Make sure someone stays with you for 24 hours after your procedure, and take care of yourself during that time.
  • The following activities should be avoided for 24 hours after discharge due to the possibility of feeling drowsy after receiving anesthetic medications:
