What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive way of reducing the appearance of lines, wrinkles, blemishes, and scars on your face. It uses a laser to send short, highly concentrated beams of light at irregular skin.

It’s an exact and accurate way to target problem areas, one area of skin at a time. The laser beam used in laser skin resurfacing removes the skin’s outer layer, called the epidermis.

While it removes the outer layer, it also heats the underlying layer called the dermis. Removing the epidermis and heating the dermis stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers.

As the treated areas heal, the new skin is smoother and firmer.

Who is a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Only some people will be good candidates for laser skin resurfacing. You may be a good fit for laser skin resurfacing if the following applies to you:

  • You have elastic skin that is not oily
  • Your skin is not prone to scarring from minor cuts
  • You aren’t looking to improve deep wrinkles
  • You don’t have excessively droopy or sagging skin
  • You don’t have active acne
  • You don’t have a darker skin tone that may experience hypopigmentation because of undergoing laser skin resurfacing
  • You don’t have any autoimmune conditions that could make it more difficult to heal after treatment

There’s a lot that can go into laser skin resurfacing candidacy. The only way to know if you are a good candidate is to schedule a consultation at Heathrow Surgery Center with Dr. Dawn Scruggs.

What Can Laser Skin Resurfacing Achieve?

Laser skin resurfacing is an excellent way of rejuvenating your appearance without invasive surgical procedures. Laser skin resurfacing can improve the appearance of wrinkles and lines on the face.

Laser skin resurfacing can even out skin coloring to create a more even pigmentation. It can also help tighten your skin, making it look tauter and firmer, and it can even be used to remove malignant and benign lesions.
